Awards and Recognition Program: Individual Awards

Alumni Achievement Award
The Alumni Achievement Award recognizes alumni 35 years of age and younger for their extraordinary professional accomplishments. These prominent young alumni are nominated by an academic college and invited by the President of the University to return to campus to share their expertise with students, faculty, and administrators. They demonstrate to students that Penn State alumni succeed in exceptional fashion at an early age. The award is a cast bronze medallion and framed certificate.

Alumni Fellow Award
The Alumni Fellow Award is the most prestigious award given by the Penn State Alumni Association. Since 1973, the Alumni Fellow Award has been given to select alumni who, as leaders in their professional fields, are nominated by an academic college and accept an invitation from the President of the University to return to campus to share their expertise with students, faculty, and administrators. The award is a cast bronze statue and framed certificate.

Distinguished Alumni Award
The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor that The Pennsylvania State University bestows upon an outstanding alumna or alumnus. The award salutes the achievements of outstanding alumni whose “personal lives, professional achievements, and community service exemplify the objectives of their alma mater.” The award is an engraved bronze medallion, matching pendant, and framed inscribed certificate.

Diversity Award
The Diversity Award recognizes an individual who has significantly contributed to fostering diversity at Penn State by sharing or volunteering his or her talent, time, and resources on behalf of the University.

Friend of Penn State Legislative Award
The Friend of Penn State Legislative Award recognizes a Pennsylvania legislator who has played a significant role in the continued improvement of The Pennsylvania State University, the Commonwealth's land-grant institution. The award is a cast bronze sculpture engraved with the recipient's name.

Honorary Alumni Award
The Honorary Alumni Award was created to recognize outstanding individuals who, though not graduates of Penn State, greatly enhance the University through their commitment and service. The award is life membership in the Penn State Alumni Association and a cast bronze medallion.

Outstanding Alumni Council Member Award
The award is presented to an individual for outstanding commitment, leadership, and volunteer service to the Alumni Council of the Penn State Alumni Association.

Philip Philip Mitchell Service Award
The Philip Philip Mitchell Service Award recognizes an individual who has significantly contributed in the area of public service by sharing or volunteering his or her talent, time, and resources on behalf of the University. The award is a cash gift (designated to the program area of the recipient’s choice), certificate, and inscription of the recipient’s name on a permanent plaque.

Recent Alumna/Alumnus Award
This award recognizes a recent alumna/alumnus who has provided exemplary volunteer service to the Penn State Alumni Association. Eligibility for the award is limited to individuals who have graduated from the University within the last 10 years.

Volunteer of the Year Award
The Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has provided exemplary service to the Penn State Alumni Association.
